About Me

A native of Venezuela, Dr.Boscan brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to San Diego. She received her doctorate in Psychology and is licensed by the state of California as a Clinical Psychologist. Dr. Boscan is also certified in psychoanalysis and has extensive training in pediatric neuropsychology. She has served as a neuropsychologist staff research associate for the UCSD School of Medicine Neuroscience Department, a professor at the San Diego Psychoanalytic Center (from where she received her psychoanalytic training), and served as a supervisor for psychiatric fellows at the UCSD School of Medicine Psychiatry Department. She has served as an expert witness before the Family Court of San Diego County Superior Court. Well known internationally, Dr.Boscan served as a Vice-President of the International Psychoanalytic Studies Organization (IPSO). Dr. Boscan is bilingual in both Spanish and English and works with individuals of all ages. As a psychoanalyst, Dr.Boscan understands that an individual’s feelings and behaviors are motivated by a variety of unconscious factors which make people “feel stuck.” She aims at helping patients begin to understand themselves and break free with associated habits. Although challenging at times, her approach is to gently help the patient discover his/her attitudes, habits and behaviors that are not serving their best interests. Dr.Boscan's goal in working with children and adolescents is to build a strong, trusting relationship with the patient and a partner to the patient's family in understanding the child and adolescent developmental stages. For adults, Dr.Boscan offers executive coaching, psychological and neuropsychological assessments, as well as consultations, shaping assessments to match the individual needs of the patient and help them best achieve their goals and resolve emotional distress or conflict.  On a personal note, I was born in Venezuela and enjoy spending time with my family, friends and furry friends as well as exploring the great outdoors, partake in physical fitness, cook, travel, and garden (she recently made her own sage butter & distributed them among friends).

Post-Pandemic Effects on Mental Health

The COVID-19 pandemic and associated lockdowns have had a significant impact on mental health worldwide.

  1. Increased anxiety and depression: Many individuals have experienced heightened levels of anxiety and depression due to concerns about the virus, isolation, financial difficulties, and uncertainty about the future.

  2. Social isolation and loneliness: The necessary restrictions on social interactions and physical distancing measures have resulted in increased feelings of social isolation and loneliness, which can contribute to poor mental health outcomes.

  3. Disruption of routines and increased stress: The disruptions caused by the pandemic, such as changes in work and school environments, financial strain, and concerns about health, have contributed to heightened stress levels for many individuals.

  4. Impact on vulnerable populations: Certain groups, including frontline healthcare workers, individuals with pre-existing mental health conditions, older adults, and children and adolescents, may be particularly vulnerable to the negative mental health effects of the pandemic.

  5. Access to mental health services: The pandemic has also posed challenges to accessing mental health services due to overwhelmed healthcare systems, limited availability of in-person care, and increased demand for mental health support.

It is crucial to recognize that the situation may have evolved since my last update, and it's always recommended to refer to the latest news and research from reputable sources for the most up-to-date information on mental health issues related to COVID-19 and lockdowns.
